[ 13 February 2004 ] Executive Breakfast Forum:"Future Proof Technology - Don't be a Dinosaur!"

CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG) in collaboration with Progress Software organised this Executive Breakfast Forum, "Future Proof Technology - Don't be a Dinosaur!".  The forum held at the InterContinental Hotel Singapore on 13th February 2004 was attended by CEOs, CIOs, CTOs and Senior Management Executives from the Financial, Education and Manufacturing sectors.

Ms.Angelina Tan, Senior Manager, CommerceNet Singapore gave the welcome address on behalf of Mr.Wong Jeh Shyan, CEO of CommerceNet Singapore.  The 1st speaker, Mr. Brian Otis, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Field Operations, Sonic Software spoke on the topic "Changing the Economics of Integration."  Mr.Otis gave an overview of Sonic Software and went on to speak on Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). He discussed the characteristics of an enterprise service bus (ESB).

Mr.Otis discussed issues on relevant use cases and customers and stated that it should start with best practices from traditional integration. New standards-based web services can be added and the interaction of services could be connected and coordinated reliably.

Mr.Otis also introduced a 5 step plan for EAI renewal. They are as follows:

  • Leverage standards
  • Expose applications as services
  • Rely on XML
  • Think globally, integrate locally
  • Buy and deploy what you need, where you need it

The 2nd speaker Mr. Simon Loh, Business Development Director, GridNode Pte Ltd spoke on the topic "A Comprehensive B2B Integration Roadmap."  Mr.Loh stated that Web Services present an appealing vision of the future, linking diverse and disparate systems on multiple platforms, all seamlessly communicating together in an application heaven. His presentation examined the facts of Web Services and B2B Integration, the potential benefits, the current state of maturity of the technology, and the issues and challenges related to implementing these proven technologies."
