CNSG-CNHK Joint Breakfast Talk - Opportunity to Enter Hong Kong E-Commerce

The firs joint
business seminar by CommerceNet Singapore and CommerceNet Hong
Kong kicked off at 8:30 morning at Good wood Park Hotel, Arundel
Room. The seminar was well attended by CNSG members, a group of
venture capitalists from Pakistan as well as the Hog Kong delegates.
Mr Wong Jeh
Shyan, CEO of CNSG delivered his welcome and opening speech to
the audience for taking interests in the Hong Kong e-commerce
market, which is undergoing some exciting and vibrant transformation.
Following that, Dr Lo Wai Shun, founder of Silicon Venture, an
investment holding company based in HK, share his valuable experience
as a VC in both HK and the Mainland Chinese market. He has investment
interests in e-commerce and Internet start-ups with focus in enabling
technologies. He also analysed the VC trends and identified the
favourable and less favourable sectors for investment purposes.

Moving
on, Mr Robert Neely from Electronic Commerce China Ltd, painted
the big picture for the current Hong Kong e-commerce situations.
He gave a quick 5 "S" Snapshots including strategy, strengths, samples,
services and statistics pertaining to the e-commerce market in HK
and China. Having laid the macro-groundwork, Mr Szeto Hin from GMS
Telecom Ltd briefed the audience on how to take telecommunication
and e-commerce into the twenty-first century. He stressed the importance
of imagination, innovation and integrity in his Business Strategy
besides taking prudent risk and faith in the business model. His
visions for the future telecommunication are: (1) The web would
become the centre of eCommerce; (2) Telcom world would become IP-based
and virtual while physical presence will become irrelevant.

A revolutionary
eCommerce innovation was introduced by Mr Patrick Cheung from UR
Photo - your one-stop Digital photo service. Responding to the strong
and growing demand for online digital photography, UR Photo's unique
business and revenue model would scale a large market potential
in both HK and China. The last speaker was Mr George Chang from
Pacific Dot Ltd whose business is in supply chain management. His
business model included a virtual buying office and one-stop-global-sourcing.
This is made possible by creating a fastsourcing platform to re-engineer
process and create traction using the Internet technology. The supply
chain solutions will help SME to reduce back office cost and facilitates
CRM, as it is convenient and easy to use.
The Seminar
ended with a lively Q&A where business ideas and information were
exchanged. Several business deals were forged between local and
HK participants as well as MOUs with venture capitalists from Pakistan.
On the whole, the joint seminar had serve its purpose by creating
a platform for local and HK e-commerce players to meet and build
their e-businesses. CNSG hopes to organise more joint networking
and interaction event of this nature and look forward to members'
active participation.
