Chairman of CommerceNet Singapore (CNSG), Dr. Toh See Kiat; spoke at the International Economic Crime Conference 2001 held at the Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre from 16-18 January. Dr. Toh spoke on "Threats from e-Commerce to the Consumer - Invisible Traps, Unsuspecting Minds". He gave examples drawn from many reported incidents and studies to highlight a variety of invisible traps in e-Crimes. To prevent consumers from falling into these traps, Dr. Toh suggested a few measures such as educating the public, implementing trustmark programme, changing the law, etc. Dr. Toh also introduced ConsumerTrust - CNSG's Global Reliability Programme as a viable first line of defence. The programme provides an industry reference and benchmarking framework for global trustmark. It also serves as a platform to discuss and resolve issues; promotes trust standards and direction for Internet-based electronic commerce. |
